Christine is a certified Ayurvedic consultant and educator. As a teacher and practitioner, she is devoted to creating health and inner peace by fostering a sense of interconnectedness with each other and with our natural environment.

Christine is passionate about the teachings, and brings a gentle, compassionate, and light-hearted, yet powerful, hands-on approach in the classroom.
Christine is blessed and authorized to teach by her guru, the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore. She graduated from Amherst College with a degree in Biology. And she completed post-graduate studies at the Kripalu College of Ayurveda in Lennox, MA, and the Dixit Clinic of Ayurveda and the Mumuksha School of Ayurvedic Massage in Mysore, India.
Sat 15th Sept : Basic Pranayama (breathwork )
This class will introduce current yoga students to some basic pranayama techniques. Pranayama, the 4th limb in Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga system, is a practice of energy management and elongation in the body. Patanjali says that the regular practice of pranayama reduces the obstacles that inhibit clear perception. With this practice, the mind is prepared for the process of direction toward a chosen goal. Come experience a little clarity!
These exercises are safe for anyone to do, but some prior yoga experience will be helpful.
Sun 16th Sept : Intro to Ayurveda
This introductory session will focus on basic principles of ayurveda, the ancient science of self-healing, and how they can support your health and well-being.
Ayurveda is the oldest system of medicine known to mankind. With origins in India, and a sister science to Yoga, Ayurveda seeks to optimize the health of the body, mind and spirit by creating a balanced relationship to nature and the elements. In our ever-busy and increasingly stressful world, this class will encourage you to reconnect with our natural environment and rhythms and will provide you with an opportunity to slow down and check in with yourself. You will come away with a basic understanding of our inherent relationship to universal energies and some practical daily routine strategies to antidote the effects of imbalance.

Lecture : Yoga and the Nervous System
According to the earliest references of Yoga in the Upanishads, the purpose of yoga is to steady the sense organs, and move our awareness inwards towards Self-knowledge, rather than towards the ever enticing and changing objects of the world. In this lecture we will look at an overview of the presentation of the nadis, the different types of nerves, according to Yogis, and their corollary systems according to Western medicine. These two complementary systems are very important for maintaining health, homeostasis, our ability to listen and communicate well with others, and find a sense of peace within our own nervous system. The lectures lead toward an understanding of how some of the most inner benefits of asanas, pranayama, and chanting are actually activating our nervous system in profound ways.
Eddie Stern is an Ashtanga Yoga teacher, author, and lecturer. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.

We will go through the basics of the practise; breathing and concentration, the sun salutations A and B, the first few fundamental standing postures, seated postures and finishing postures. We will also cover some of the theory/history of Ashtanga yoga.
This is a good way to add to and deepen understanding of Ashtanga yoga whether you have been practising for months and years, or if you are new to Ashtanga yoga taught in the traditional method and wish to learn. It’s important to keep come back to the roots of this practise !

We will also chant the first book of the Yoga Sutras, Samadhi Pada to inspire us to practice with more devotion and love.
Suggested donation per person, £5-£15 for a local charity. Children are welcome. It would be good if you can let me know if you wish to come along. There’s plenty space for many !
