Lecture : Yoga and the Nervous System

According to the earliest references of Yoga in the Upanishads, the purpose of yoga is to steady the sense organs, and move our awareness inwards towards Self-knowledge, rather than towards the ever enticing and changing objects of the world. In this lecture we will look at an overview of the presentation of the nadis, the different types of nerves, according to Yogis, and their corollary systems according to Western medicine. These two complementary systems are very important for maintaining health, homeostasis, our ability to listen and communicate well with others, and find a sense of peace within our own nervous system. The lectures lead toward an understanding of how some of the most inner benefits of asanas, pranayama, and chanting are actually activating our nervous system in profound ways.

Eddie Stern is an Ashtanga Yoga teacher, author, and lecturer. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Basics of Ashtanga Yoga

here’s info on the last workshop, there’ll be another one soon!

We will go through the basics of the practise; breathing and concentration, the sun salutations A and B, the first few fundamental standing postures, seated postures and finishing postures. We will also cover some of the theory/history of Ashtanga yoga.

This is a good way to add to and deepen understanding of Ashtanga yoga whether you have been practising for months and years, or if you are new to Ashtanga yoga taught in the traditional method and wish to learn. It’s important to keep come back to the roots of this practise !

Friday 20th Nov 4pm – 5.15pm

Chanting for Guidance & Stability in our Yoga Practices & to Cultivate Peace in our Lives

Join Sarah and baby Dash Hatcher for an afternoon of yoga chanting and prayers. We will look at two chants devoted to Patanjali, the Father of Yoga, for guidance and stability in our current yoga practices and to cultivate peace in our lives. We will also chant the first book of the Yoga Sutras, Samadhi Pada to inspire us to practice with more devotion and love.

Suggested donation per person, £5-£15 for a local charity. Children are welcome. It would be good if you can let me know if you wish to come along. There’s plenty space for many !
